I have been SOO busy! And, as a result, I have not been able to update my blog for the past couple of months. But, since I have personally set aside some quite time for the next couple of weeks, I am hoping that I will be able to get up to speed with some of the things I have been wanting to post.
Today, I will be writing a short bit about the weekend right after Ayumi’s visit to Hokkaido, which just so happens to be 14th and 15th of May…
Whoa, I really have fallen behind.
Anyway, this weekend in particular was rather eventful as we had t-shirt packing to do for a HAJET (Hokkaido Japanese Exchange and Teaching Association) fundraiser, a outing to a entertainment space called Round 1, and a community Easter Egg hunt.
First off, HAJET, the association here in Hokkaido which I serve as the Northern Representative, took the initiative a while back to raise money for disaster relief in Miyagi-ken following the recent eathquake and tsunami disasters. We ended up selling 300+ t-shirts, and raising about $3000 CAD. Me, Holly, and Will all gathered at Keri’s place in Uryu (a small town of about 3,000 two hours south of Nayoro), to box and send out the packages.

I Heart Japan!
After doing so, we decided it would be a good idea to meet up with some other JETs (Teressa, Mark, Sam, and Curtis) in the area to have a little fun at Round 1, an amusement space which I have already wrote about in my blog. Saving you the time of looking it up again, essentially Round 1 is a place where for $15 CAD you can such facilities as; a sports complex, a free arcade, a bowling alley, a comic library, a karaoke, casino slots, fishing, mini-bike racing, rollerblading, and of course… mechanical bulls, and massage chairs.
I wonder why we don’t have places like this in Canada?
Anyway, we ended up staying at Keri’s place that night in Uryu as she was holding a Easter Egg Hunt for the schools in her community the next day. All in all, about 30 JETs from around the region came to help with the hunt, which was amazing since there was only about 50 elementary school students participating. Each ALT had like 1.8 students, or something like that.

The Easter Egg Hunt was so successful, that I borrowed some of the egg shells from Keri, and have since done hunts at two of my 4 elementary schools.
In the end, it was a great weekend worth mentioning.
I’ll try and keep up the pace on the updates!
Thanks for reading.
